Share Your Heart – February
Hosted each February by the Burn Institute Auxiliary, proceeds from this elegant affair benefit Burn Institute programs and services. The galas planned have varied from a Sunday afternoon soiree, casino and wine tasting, to an upscale Mardi Gras party. You can support the Burn Institute Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts with sponsorships or underwriting, by donating an auction item or prizes for our opportunity drawing, making a cash donation, volunteering your time or attending the event. “Give Burns the Boot” Countywide Boot Drive - April
Each April, firefighters gather at intersections countywide to collect money in their boots during the morning and evening commutes. Sponsored by the San Diego-Imperial County Firefighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute, it is the organization’s largest one-day fundraiser of the year. Spirit of Courage Awards Banquet – May
Since 1973, the Burn Institute has held the annual Spirit of Courage Awards Banquet to pay tribute to individuals who have risked their own lives to save others from death or injury by fire. Since its inception, more than 500 civilians, law enforcement and fire service personnel have been honored with this prestigious award. The life-saving act for which they are nominated must involve a high degree of personal risk and exposure to themselves. In memory of fire prevention officer Pam Kelly, the Institute established the Pamela R. Kelly Volunteer of the Year Award to honor fire service personnel for their continued, dedicated volunteer efforts to the Institute. Contact the Burn Institute for sponsorship opportunities.
Fire Expo / Firefighter Combat Challenge - June
The Burn Institute’s FIRE EXPO/Firefighter Combat Challenge is a family-oriented event designed to heighten the public’s awareness of modern emergency services. Held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in beautiful Del Mar and hosted by the Fire Fighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute, proceeds from this event benefit Burn Institute programs and services, including Camp Beyond The Scars for burn-injured children. General fair admission allows visitors to enjoy the fairgrounds PLUS all of the excitement that has made the FIRE EXPO/ Firefighter Combat Challenge the largest firefighting event in Southern California!
The day-long event includes “live” firefighting demonstrations (vehicle fire/extrication, rappelling), fire and burn prevention education booths, live music, activities for the kids and so much more. A highlight of the event is the exciting arrival of the Burn Run Parade of fire trucks and apparatus as they converge at the Fairgrounds, with their lights and strobes blinking, from dozens of fire stations throughout the county. The Firefighter Combat Challenge began as a one-time regional competition showcasing the importance of physical fitness in the firefighting profession. The Challenge includes five consecutive real-life firefighting tasks that are performed by two competitors head-to-head and attracts hundreds of fire department teams from all over the world. San Diego County Fire Chiefs’ Association Golf Tournament - September
Hosted by the San Diego County Fire Chiefs’ Association to benefit the Burn Institute programs and services, this upscale golf tournament is heavily attended by local fire service personnel and local business leaders. Held each year at an exclusive golf club, this tournament also includes a sit-down dinner, silent auction, and awards presentation. Contact the Burn Institute for sponsorship opportunities.
Fire Ball – October
The Burn Institute’s Imperial Valley Advisory Board hosts the annual dinner, dance and awards presentation to benefit the Burn Institute’s programs and services. The evening includes a silent auction, delicious dinner, and an Exceptional Service Award presentation. You can help support this fun event by underwriting segments of the event (i.e. wine, invitations, event program, music, etc.) or through a donation of a unique and valuable gift to the silent auction or by attending the actual event.
