Fire Ball

The 8th Annual Fire Ball “A Tribute to the Fire Service,” includes dinner, silent auction, casino action and dancing. Awards are presented to those who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve their community. These efforts are not often recognized. The Burn Institute of Imperial Valley created Fire Ball for this reason and also to raise funds to benefit important work of the Burn Institute in the Imperial Valley. San Diego Countywide "Give Burns The Boot"

This countywide firefighter boot drive is sponsored by the San Diego - Imperial County Fire Fighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute. Firefighters collect donations in their boots during the morning and evening commutes. This is the Burn Institute's largest one-day fundraiser of the year. Firefighter Night at The Padres

The Padres pay tribute to the fire service with pre-game ceremonies that include hundreds of firefighters lining the first and third base paths while a firefighter sings the National Anthem. A special fire service tribute video is shown on the Jumbotron and a young burn survivor throws out the first pitch. Spirit of Courage Awards Banquet - 35th Anniversary

Each year, the Burn Institute honors those who have risked their lives to save others from severe burn injury or death by fire. On May 22, 2008, this tremendous honor will once again be bestowed to several brave and fearless individuals who exhibited exceptional courage to save the life of a fellow human being. The life-saving act for which they are nominated involves a high degree of personal risk and exposure to themselves. FIRE EXPO 2008

The Burn Institute’s 18th Annual FIRE EXPO is scheduled for July 2008. This event is the largest firefighting event in Southern California. FIRE EXPO is designed to heighten awareness of modern emergency services and includes “live” firefighting demonstrations, a fire and burn prevention pavilion, a firefighter obstacle course for the kids, fire engine rides, a Kidde Karnival, live music, food and much more. FIRE EXPO is free to the public and a great place for families to spend a summer day. FIRE EXPO is the only special event in San Diego County endorsed by the San Diego County Fire Chiefs' Association where every fire agency, association and union participates. This year, we anticipate a crowd of more than 20,000 for this unique and fun event which will include an exciting Firefighter Combat Challenge. Firefighter Combat Challenge

The Firefighter Combat Challenge began as a one-time regional competition showcasing the importance of physical fitness in the firefighting profession. Today, with that same goal in mind, the Challenge series now takes place in over 20 locations annually including regional, national and world competition levels. The Challenge attracts hundreds of fire department teams as they compete to prove that they are the best in their profession. The Firefighter Combat Challenge has provided a national showcase for responders’ athleticism for the past 25 years. For the duration of the event, competitors must wear full bunker gear and breathing apparatus, which together can weigh up to 50 pounds. The Challenge includes five consecutive real-life firefighting tasks that are performed by two competitors head-to-head. For more information, please call the Burn Institute (858) 541-2277.

San Diego County Fire Chiefs' Association Annual Golf Tournament

Santaluz Country Club

This 18th Annual Golf Tournament will be held at the 250-acre championship golf course, Santaluz. The upscale tournament allows civilians to play golf with San Diego County Fire Chiefs who organize the event, in benefit of the Burn Institute. Last year’s tournament raised more than $120,000 for the Burn Institute’s camp program for burn injured children, and other fire and burn prevention programs. Fire On the Fairways

Riverwalk Golf Course

In October 2008, the Firefighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute will present its fourth annual Fire on the Fairways Golf Tournament to benefit the Burn Institute. This golf tournament, created by firefighters, for firefighters, is a fun take-off on the Masters Tournament, and includes the awarding of the prestigious Green Jacket (fire fighter turnouts, spray-painted green) but anyone can participate! This fun tournament also has challenging contests such as the Pink Lady, closest to the pin (use of a 3-wood or driver required), and the longest drive.
