Emergency Needs Fund
Burn survivors face challenges that most of us may never understand - most of us except for the Burn Institute. The Burn Institute specializes in burn support and understands the pain and suffering associated with a severe burn injury. Since 1972 the Burn Institute has played an integral role in transforming burn victims into burn survivors.

There are many different burn survivor support programs available through the Institute and all of them are free of charge to local residents. One such program includes the Emergency Needs Fund. The Emergency Needs Fund provides emergency housing to low-income families of burn patients while their loved ones are being treated at the UCSD Regional Burn Center. The assistance also provides for emergency transportation to and from the burn center for required follow-up treatment and meals.

Parents in need of financial support are referred to the Burn Institute by the social work staff at the UCSD Regional Burn Center. Determining a real need is based on several factors including:

Once a need has been determined, the Burn Institute in partnership with the social work staff arranges for the distribution of vouchers valid for hotels, motels, taxicabs, rental car companies, public transportation bus tokens and food vouchers.
