Special Assistance Fund
The Special Assistance Fund is different from the Emergency Needs Fund in that it specifically helps fulfill a burn survivor's special needs. Needs that are necessary while still a patient at the UCSD Regional Burn Center and after discharge to help make their rehabilitation a little easier - often times, insurance companies do not always cover the costs of special physical therapy devices.
The fund also helps sponsor burn survivors to attend special conferences and support workshops, which assist them in healing their emotional scars.
This program provides assistance with special needs such as:
- Medical supplies such as pressure garments
- Rental of special physical therapy equipment
- Wheelchairs and hearing aids
- Headphones and videos for in-hospital use
